Charlton

Charlton is located in North Central Victoria on the Calder Highway midway between Melbourne and Mildura, within the Buloke Shire. It is situated in the valley of the Avoca River in the last of the foothills of the Victorian highlands. Charlton welcomes visitors to the town and invites all to stay awhile and enjoy the river’s natural beauty, our heritage style buildings and the town’s friendly hospitality.

There is plenty to do in Charlton whether you just have a few hours or are planning an extended visit. It is the perfect place to stay and explore, providing easy access for day trips to Lake Tyrell, the Silo Art Trail and the surrounding towns of Boort, Donald, St. Arnaud, Wedderburn, Wycheproof.

The Travellers Rest in the centre of town is a terrific place to freshen up after a long drive or as a starting point for a wander around the town or along the river amongst the river red gums and native bird life. Visit one of our excellent retail outlets or eateries, admire our wall murals, soak up the history in one of many displays or relax in one of our lovely parks & playgrounds.

If time permits, the Golden Grains Museum or the Courthouse Gallery are well worth a visit or you can catch a film or live show at the Rex Theatre. Just out of town on the Borung Highway you’ll find the Charlton Golf Course, abounding with native flora and fauna, and a further 12 km along the highway, Wooroonook Lake is a tranquil spot catering for camping, fishing and boating.
