Stitching the Sacred

19 Sep 2025

Stitching the Sacred is a three-day, bi-annual, craft camp that explores how we thrive as human communities, in relationship with the earth, through the mediums of crafting, story, food and celebration.

Each camp is tailored to a specific craft activity or practitioner, and is unique in its orientation and design. This Spring, their focus is ‘Plants and Place’ and they welcome Jodie Goldring, a sculptural weaver from Ballarat, Victoria, who will guide you in making twined baskets with sustainably sourced materials, learning how to identify, harvest and prepare plants for weaving, and the unique properties of each material. They will weave in traditional stories about baskets and basketry, along with plant connection activities, a guided walk in Lake Coorong, leisure activities like swimming, and opportunities to explore Hopetoun’s eateries and craft scene.

Their guiding principle is to create a place and a time where people of all ages, genders and abilities can gather as individuals, families and a community to support each other to craft objects of personal, cultural and spiritual value and to learn handcrafting skills as a way of connecting to person, place and spirit.

Located in Hopetoun, Victoria, at the exquisite, architect-designed, community-run venue of the Mallee Bush Retreat, with beautiful cabins and stunning camp sites available.
