Lake Newlands
Lake Newlands is one for the nature lovers.
When the lake is full, it has been described by visitors as Victoria’s own Kakadu. The symphony of frogs will catch your breath and the abundant birdlife is a feast to the eyes. It is really the most delightful and peaceful place to reconnect to nature.
Lake Newlands is a small recreational reserve so easy to navigate if walking, fat tyre bike riding or horse riding. You can free camp, however, there are no onsite amenities. There are public toilets at Apsley.
Lake Newlands also has a short boardwalk for those a little less steady on their feet which also showcases a lovely mosaic art trail.
Lake Newlands is situated in Apsley, 10 kilometres from the South Australian border and 120 kilometres from Horsham. One of the oldest inland towns in Victoria, it has a fine history of country dining and hospitality. Eateries include the Corner Shop and the iconic and historical Border Inn.
The West Wimmera is also home to three silo art sites. Goroke, Kaniva and Serviceton are home of outstanding silo art works.
