Sheep Art Trail
The Kaniva Sheep Art Trail is a 900-metre public art walk connecting the Big Windmill, Kaniva Silo Art and the Kaniva Wetlands and Fauna Park.
Featuring more than 40 individually painted sheep, murals and a wool stencil wall displaying over 100 historic wool stencils, the trail celebrates Kaniva’s rich sheep farming heritage. Merino sheep have been part of the district since the 1850s, and from the 1920s to the 1960s the Kaniva Show was recognised as Victoria’s premier Merino Ram Show. Sheep grazing continues to play an important role in the region’s agricultural landscape.
Interpretive signs along the trail share stories of Kaniva’s wool industry, history and community. Young visitors can also enjoy searching for the tiny windmill hidden on each sheep.
Every sheep has been painted by local artists and community groups, ranging in age from 8 to 80. The Sheep Art Trail has been entirely created and funded by the community.
