In Conversation with Paul Blackman

21 Nov 2026

Join artist Paul Blackman in conversation with curator, Astrid Barry, as they explore the difference between here and there, an exhibition that moves between virtual and physical worlds.

Using virtual reality at his studio in Beulah, Blackman creates vast sculptural environments within limitless digital space. These immersive constructions exist only in virtual reality before being translated into photographs, videos and installation works that bring traces of these imagined worlds into the gallery.

Inspired by the shapes and structures of the Wimmera and Mallee’s rural industries, Blackman’s practice blends emerging technology, architecture, photography and sculpture to challenge how we experience space, memory and perception.

This conversation will provide insight into the artist’s unique creative process, from constructing complex forms in virtual reality using industrial design software to transforming them into compelling physical installations. Discover how digital tools are expanding the possibilities of contemporary art and reshaping the relationship between what people see, remember and imagine.

Entry is free. Bookings are essential.
