SUMMARY:Velveteen Rabbit
DESCRIPTION:Set within a film shoot\, layered with live projections\, physical theatre company Born in a Taxi thoughtfully and hilariously reimagines this 100 year old children’s story by Margery Williams. Please bring your own favourite snuggly toy to the show. \nThis is a show where the toys are in charge on stage and your own special guest toy is a VIP. \nOne of those rare stories that dare to tease out complex themes of love\, loss and change in a way that allows children to connect with them\, Velveteen Rabbit is about a toy rabbit who becomes real\, but how did it happen? \nIn the hands of Born in a Taxi\, the story is infused with dynamic audience participation\, live and recorded music with live stream video and projections layered into the work that plays with multiple scales that reflect the perspective of a child. Playful\, visual and poetic. \nA must-see for families and anyone who has ever cherished a beloved toy. \n  \n\nOrganised by Horsham Rural City Council

SUMMARY:This working life: from the collection
DESCRIPTION:Horsham Regional Art Gallery is pleased to present This working life\, an exhibition of photography drawn entirely from the Gallery collection. Exploring the many ways Australians work\, contribute to\, and care for their communities and spanning more than a century\, these images reveal labour not as an abstract idea but as lived experience shaped by hands\, bodies\, relationships and place. \nFrom early twentieth‑century rural industry to the factories\, offices and newsrooms of the post‑war decades and into contemporary workplaces\, the exhibition traces shifting landscapes of work. Come and see farmers\, machinists\, rope makers\, firefighters\, refugees\, printers\, miners and scientists. Some labour in paddocks and foundries\, others under fluorescent light or in moments of crisis. Each photograph honours the skill\, resilience and quiet dignity of its subjects. \nThe exhibition features works by Robert Ashton\, Samuel George Cahill\, Harold Cazneaux\, Norman Deck\, John Immig\, Con Kroker\, Jesse Marlow\, Bruce Postle\, Ross Schultz\, Wolfgang Sievers\, Matthew Sleeth\, Mark Strizic\, Ian Ward and John Werrett. Their approaches range from modernist precision to documentary intimacy and photojournalistic urgency\, reminding us that photography does more than record work\, it shapes how labour is seen\, remembered and valued. \nSince its early years\, Horsham Regional Art Gallery has held a strong commitment to collecting and exhibiting photography. \n  \n\nOrganised by Horsham Rural City Council

SUMMARY:Werrun Wile Gan\, soft possum gowns: Kelly Koumalatsos
DESCRIPTION:Kaliopi Christine (Kelly) Koumalatsos is an Aboriginal – Greek Australian artist. Horsham Regional Art Gallery is proud to present Werrin Wile Gan – Soft Possum Gowns an exhibition of signature works by the Wamba Wamba and Wergaia woman\, who for more than thirty years\, has been central to the revival of possum skin cloak‑making in southeast Australia. \nThis exhibition brings together contemporary prints from the artist’s personal collection and delicate paper textile installations borrowed from Museums Victoria. The dresses and work garments are reminiscent of those worn by women in Koumalatsos’ matrilineal line. To make these works\, printmaking ink was rolled directly onto possum fur and the impression transferred to paper or tissue paper. These prints and paper-textile works are the result of decades of practice led experimentation with possum fur and with the cultural processes surrounding possum skin cloak creation. \nThe garments’ shifting styles\, the contradictory fragility of tissue paper as garment\, and the act of printing the fur’s texture – all work together to shape meaning. As printed fur\, you are offered an impression only\, an echo. In southeast Australian Aboriginal cultures\, possum skin cloaks are identity-bearing garments\, surfaces for story and providers of literal warmth. These works remove you from the tactile and cultural qualities of possum skin itself and invite you to consider what happens when cultural knowledge is transmuted. \n  \n\nOrganised by Horsham Rural City Council

SUMMARY:Demi Kromidellis: Ancestral Silence
DESCRIPTION:Demi Kromidellis’ practice explores the layered intersections of heritage\, memory\, and identity. As a third-generation Australian of Greek descent\, she reflects on the ways diaspora continues to shape cultural belonging within Victoria\, where Greek immigrant communities have long contributed to the state’s social and cultural fabric. \nIn 2024\, Kromidellis travelled to Greece to photograph her grandparents’ homes\, now abandoned and decaying. These sites\, once filled with life and tradition\, stand as quiet monuments to migration\, cultural practice\, and family history. Through the act of revisiting and reimagining these spaces\, she reflects on how culture adapts\, transforms\, and\, at times\, dilutes across generations. \nThe large-scale chromogenic prints\, drawn from medium format film negatives\, carry the rawness of both material and memory. They ask: what remains of a culture once uprooted? And how can its physical and symbolic legacies be carried forward? \nKromidellis’ photographs become more than records of place\, they are meditations on belonging\, dislocation and the fragile threads that tie people to ancestral homes. Her art balances the tangible beauty of the natural world with an almost spiritual awareness of its mysteries\, drawing audiences into vivid encounters with both the physical and the imagined landscapes we inhabit. Her work is held in significant public collections and has been exhibited nationally and internationally\, affirming her reputation as one of Australia’s most accomplished contemporary photographers. \n  \n\nOrganised by Horsham Rural City Council

SUMMARY:The Mack Jost Gift
DESCRIPTION:Horsham Regional Art Gallery is pleased to exhibit the Mack Jost Gift\, a selection of works drawn from over 250 works donated to the Horsham Regional Art Gallery collection by Australian concert pianist Mack Jost (pronounced ‘yost’) AM (1918-2000). Jost’s legacy tells a nationally significant story of private benefaction supporting regional Australia and is an important element in the story of art and culture in the Wimmera. His generosity served our region and propelled forward the development of the art gallery. \nThe Horsham Regional Art Gallery collection was then established in 1972. Eight years later\, Horsham-born Mack Jost approached Council and Gallery staff with the proposal of a significant series of gifts to the collection; he offered to gift his private collection of Australian paintings and works on paper to the Horsham collection\, as a series of donations during his lifetime and culminating in a significant bequest. Jost selected Horsham to commemorate his family’s long association with the Wimmera\, having been born in Horsham in 1918\, and his father Conrad Henry Jost was a farmer on land outside of Horsham for several decades. From then\, Jost progressively donated his personal art collection of over 250 works by significant Australian artists from the colonial and modern eras\, culminating in the final bequest after his death in 2000. \n  \n\nOrganised by Horsham Rural City Council
