SUMMARY:The Mack Jost Gift
DESCRIPTION:Horsham Regional Art Gallery is pleased to exhibit the Mack Jost Gift\, a selection of works drawn from over 250 works donated to the Horsham Regional Art Gallery collection by Australian concert pianist Mack Jost (pronounced ‘yost’) AM (1918-2000). Jost’s legacy tells a nationally significant story of private benefaction supporting regional Australia and is an important element in the story of art and culture in the Wimmera. His generosity served our region and propelled forward the development of the art gallery.  \nThe Horsham Regional Art Gallery collection was then established in 1972. Eight years later\, Horsham-born Mack Jost approached Council and Gallery staff with the proposal of a significant series of gifts to the collection; he offered to gift his private collection of Australian paintings and works on paper to the Horsham collection\, as a series of donations during his lifetime and culminating in a significant bequest. Jost selected Horsham to commemorate his family’s long association with the Wimmera\, having been born in Horsham in 1918\, and his father Conrad Henry Jost was a farmer on land outside of Horsham for several decades. From then\, Jost progressively donated his personal art collection of over 250 works by significant Australian artists from the colonial and modern eras\, culminating in the final bequest after his death in 2000. \n  \n\nOrganised by Horsham Rural City Council

SUMMARY:Charlton Lawn Tennis Club Annual Tournament
DESCRIPTION:The Charlton Lawn Tennis Club\, Victoria’s oldest regional tennis club formed in 1881\, holds an annual three day tennis tournament\, around the Australia Day holiday\, on 16 excellent grass courts. There are Open\, A\, B\, C and D grades in each event of mens and ladies singles\, mens and ladies doubles and mixed doubles. A changing partners doubles event is provided on the singles day for those who do not wish to play singles. \nMixed doubles is all played on one day (all five grades of finals played under lights)\, mens and ladies doubles on another day and singles and changing partner doubles\, on the other day; all events are on a round robin format\, guaranteeing everyone a great weekend of tennis. \nThe club has excellent facilities\, an extensive shade area fully enclosed by a child-proof fence\, with all catering provided over the weekend. The tournament has a friendly family atmosphere and Charlton is located on the Calder Highway and on either side of the Avoca River. \nAccommodation (arranged by the contestants) is provided by a bed and breakfast\, two motels\, two hotels\, an en-suite caravan park and a caravan/tent park. DESCRIPTION:Neil Douglas was an artist deeply connected to the Australian bush. Committed to conservation\, Douglas helped shape attitudes toward the protection of the natural environment and was awarded an MBE in recognition of his services to conservation and the arts. \nRejecting romanticised views of the landscape\, his work portrays the bush as a harsh arena of survival\, where life and death unfold without sentiment. His paintings capture this uncompromising realism\, reflecting his belief that there are no tears in the bush. \nWorking en plein air\, Douglas immersed himself fully in his surroundings\, believing the bush to be a total sensory experience rather than a passive scene. His practice was grounded in direct engagement: to feel\, inhabit\, and ultimately capture the essence of the landscape. Through this approach\, his work invites viewers toward a deeper understanding and appreciation of the Australian environment. \nDouglas’s connection to nature was both intimate and unconventional. From an early age\, he chose to go barefoot\, believing his feet to be sensitive recorders of the textures and rhythms of the land. SUMMARY:REVELATION: Aunty Di Turner
DESCRIPTION:Aunty Di Turner (born Gawler\, SA\, 1959?)\, is a member of the Stolen Generations from Kaurna Country\, South Australia\, living the rest of her life on Djab Wurrung Country. The softness of silk and the warmth of wool hold the marks of Country not as decoration\, but as evidence of relationship in REVELATION\, the inaugural solo exhibition of the Ararat-based artist. \nWorking with materials such as leaves\, flowers\, iron and copper\, Turner uses eco-dyeing processes to draw colour\, trace and pattern from the natural world and onto silk and wool. The process is both physical and intuitive. Rather than imposing an image onto the surface\, Turner allows fibre\, plant\, metal and water to work together. The resulting textiles carry the imprint of Country through gathered materials\, organic forms and mineral change. \nThe title REVELATION is intentionally multi-faceted. It alludes to the way the eco-dyeing process reveals new colours within cloth\, the artist’s own artistic progression as a result of this exhibition\, and the revelatory power of nature and the places that shape us. In this very special exhibition\, Turner has expanded on her textile practice to explore contemporary textile installation\, allowing her work to shift\, move and respond to the movement of visitors within the exhibition space. \n  \n\nOrganised by Horsham Rural City Council

SUMMARY:Bunjil’s View Presented by Goolum Goolum
DESCRIPTION:Bunjil’s View is the culmination of three years of community-led cultural projects developed by Goolum Goolum. In 2024\, the inaugural Bunjil’s View\, a short-form video featuring participants from our local region\, was presented in the Gallery as part of the annual NAIDOC exhibition. Buoyed by the cultural pride and positive reception of the work\, in 2025\, a second iteration of the video project was developed and presented in the same fashion. Now in 2026\, a third work in the series is unveiled\, with all three short-form videos taking centre stage. Collectively\, these works form a visually powerful testament to community‑led artistic production\, developed on Country here in the Wimmera. \nGoolum Goolum is an Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisation established in 1979\, which today is dedicated to fostering cultural pride\, delivering essential health\, family and cultural services. For seven years\, Horsham Town Hall and Goolum Goolum have worked collaboratively on annual celebratory exhibitions which feature diverse Aboriginal artists from across the region. In 2026\, they are excited to expand this partnership across Horsham Town Hall\, including the foyer space\, Heritage Hall\, Community Gallery and the Horsham Regional Art Gallery exhibition space. \n  \n\nOrganised by Horsham Rural City Council

Children will use leaves\, foliage and textures to create colourful prints\, then turn them into a collage of their own home with drawing and mark-making. Inspired by the work of Di Turner and Neil Douglas\, this hands-on workshop celebrates the Australian landscape and natural world. Bring a photo of your house and interesting leaves or natural materials for printing. \nOn Thursday\, get creative with Magiclay and make a colourful clay plate or animal inspired by Australian flora and fauna. Think emus in fancy shoes\, quirky bush creatures and anything else your imagination can dream up. Inspired by Di Turner and Neil Douglas\, children will explore colour\, texture and storytelling while creating a unique artwork to take home. \nThese workshops are designed for children aged 7 to 12 years\, with durations of 1 hour 30 minutes each. Working within these limitless digital landscapes\, he creates sculptures and structures that exist only in virtual reality before documenting them through photography. \nPresented as arrangements of photographic images and text\, the resulting works trace a journey from the virtual to the physical.
