The exhibition View from here: Highlights from the National Gallery collection will see key paintings\, works on paper\, artist’s books and even furniture\, by artists such as Eugene von Guerard\, Nicholas Chevalier\, Thomas Clark\, Arthur Streeton\, Sidney Nolan\, Arthur Boyd and John Olsen return to the landscape that inspired them. \nThis exhibition is on long-term loan from the National Gallery of Australia with support from the Australian Government as part of Sharing the National Collection. \n  \n\nOrganised by Horsham Rural City Council

SUMMARY:National Photographic Portrait Prize 2025: A National Portrait Gallery Exhibition
DESCRIPTION:Now in its 18th year\, the National Photographic Portrait Prize supports and celebrates photographic portraiture in Australia. Each year the prize attracts thousands of entrants from emerging and established artistic talent across the country. In 2025\, the judges – writer and broadcaster Benjamin Law\, Senior Curator at the National Portrait Gallery Serena Bentley\, and Leigh Robb\, Curator of Contemporary Art at the Art Gallery of South Australia selected 48 finalists from a field of more than 1400 entries. \nFeaturing famous faces and everyday Australians\, the prize celebrates the vitality and diversity of photographic portraiture in Australia and invites you into the intimate world of a subject/artist relationship and provides a powerful visual record of the year\, reflecting a particular time in Australian culture\, both socially and artistically. \nThis exhibition is supported by the National Collecting Institutions Touring and Outreach Program\, an Australian Government program aiming to improve access to the national collections for all Australians. \n  \n\nOrganised by Horsham Rural City Council

DESCRIPTION:In the Wimmera\, materials are more than resources — they are part of the landscape\, the history\, and the everyday experiences that shape creative practice. From earth\, grain\, and timber to found objects and industrial remnants\, the region offers a vast source of materiality that artists continually respond to and reinterpret. Through texture\, form\, and process\, these materials become embedded within each work\, carrying traces of place\, labour\, and environment. \nThis exhibition explores how artists engage with the materials that surround them\, transforming the familiar into works that reflect both personal and regional narratives. By utilising locally sourced\, reclaimed\, and everyday materials\, the artists reveal the enduring relationship between maker\, material\, and the Wimmera landscape itself. \n  \n\nOrganised by Horsham Rural City Council

SUMMARY:Paul Blackman: The difference between here and there
DESCRIPTION:Inspired by the shapes and forms found in the rural industries of the Wimmera and Mallee\, The difference between here and there explores the possibilities that exist between virtual realities and the physical world. \nUsing virtual reality as a studio space\, Paul Blackman constructs vast architectural worlds that range from the industrial to the theatrical. Working within these limitless digital landscapes\, he creates sculptures and structures that exist only in virtual reality before documenting them through photography. \nPresented as arrangements of photographic images and text\, the resulting works trace a journey from the virtual to the physical. What began as an immersive digital experience is now transformed within the gallery setting into a series of patterns and correlations\, inviting the viewer to consider both the images themselves and the spaces that separate and connect them. \nAt once expansive and intimate\, Blackman’s work reflects on perception\, memory and imagination\, suggesting that multiple realities can coexist within the same space and time. From immense virtual environments to the smallest intervals between images\, the exhibition reveals a world shaped by relationships\, detail and continual transformation\, where the difference between here and there becomes increasingly difficult to define. \n  \n\nOrganised by Horsham Rural City Council
